Casa View's Treasured Store Suffered Water Damage

Another local business was struck by water damage last weekend due to a pipe burst. This store is located within the main shopping district so being closed for days was bad news for this retail store. Multiple rooms and ceiling tiles had heaps of water damage, this was read through our moisture detector. We sent out technicians that started to clean out contents and begin reconstruction. The equipment was installed in the same day, with each room getting a good number of fans to air out moisture. 

The fans were left over the weekend, with each day one of our technicians doing a check up. The store owners were expecting a longer closure week, however they were informed that we could possibly be getting out of the store earlier than expected. Local School with Water In Ceiling

The last week started off with heavy rainfall, with the likes that Dallas hasn't seen in decades. The rainfall lasted all day which led to homeowners and business owners trying to make sure no water got inside their properties. However, the rainfall proved to be heavy and was starting to enter the businesses and homes. 

A few businesses unluckily got hit with standing water entering their business. Walking into their businesses next day was not a good sight. Once they knew the water was too much of an issue, they decide to call us and get us on site. Thankfully our office is located in East Dallas so we were right there ASAP. Within hours we were able to reach out to multiple local businesses and start to setup equipment and manpower. Some businesses did see feet of standing water that is unsafe to touch, so extra caution was needed. Within a couple of days we hope the water damage will be minimized greatly.

The start of the week started with a wet start! The Dallas area got more rain than expected with more rain than this summer combined. Unfortunately this lead to roads flooding, and homes around East Dallas got affected heavily. Homes and buildings around East Dallas ended up flooding with some buildings having standing water.

A school in Mesquite called out to SERVPRO of East Dallas to help out with the water that has entered the building. We performed a walkthrough with the Principal and took notes of all the areas of damage. We were in the same day and started to setup equipment around the school. The start of the new year didn't go as planned for a local church here in Dallas, Texas. An old water heater decided to give out and leak into the fellowship hall. The water damage in the Dallas church needed quick assistance so that way they could be opened for the Sunday services.

What is the difference between Mold and Mildew?

Mildew refers to certain kinds of mold or fungus.  The term mildew is often used generically to refer to mold growth, usually with a flat growth habit.

Molds include all species of microscopic fungi that grow in the form of multicellular filaments, called hyphae.  Molds can thrive on any organic matter, including clothing, leather, paper, and the ceilings, walls and floors of homes with moisture management problems. Mildew often lives on shower walls, windowsills, and other places where moisture levels are high. There are many species of molds. 

Size, Color, Texture

Mildew is a surface fungi that can easily be identified as a patch of gray or even white fungus that is lying on the surface of a moist area.  

Mold can be black or green and is often the result of a much larger infestation. This type of fungus can appear almost "fuzzy" — especially when it is found on food — or even slimy in nature.

Getting Rid of it

Mildew is easily treated with a store bought cleaner and a scrubbing brush.

Mold will usually require deep and invasive cleaning practices. For example, porous items might need to be discarded altogether, and non-porous surfaces will typically have to undergo several rounds of scrubbing.
